DUMAGUETE CITY  -- Conservation and environmental education will be the advocacy at the back pavilion Al Fresco area of Robinsons Place where a Solar Kubo will showcase the amazing possibility of power from December 9 to 18.The Solar Kubo will be launched at 5 p.m. Thursday and will be on display for all to see, touch and walk through to experience how the sun can power household appliances, lamps and computers in a home, said Zephanie Danieles, coordinator of the Oriental Negros for 350 (One350.

The project is a cooperative effort led by ONe350, an alliance of environmental advocates in Oriental Negros, with the Negros Oriental Wildlife Conservation Council, in partnership with GreenPowerPhil, Buglas Bamboo Institute, and Robinsons.

Conceived as a way to introduce alternative sources of energy, the Solar Kubo will demonstrate the capacity that is available today to reduce dependency on energy drawn from fossil fuels and other sources of power harmful to the environment and future generations.

“This will be most importantly an educational exhibit as we are always looking for creative ways to develop a new lifestyle and culture to protect our earth,” said Danieles.

In line with the advocacy on environment, ONe350 in partnership with Starboards Philippines will also have a weekend of eco-sports on December 11 to 12.

This will be a windsurfing clinic free to the public at Rizal Boulevard fronting Bethel Guest House. Windsurfing is riding a surfboard while holding a sail propelled by the wind.

“This is the kind of sport that we promote -- exciting, fun, clean, natural and harmless to nature,” Danieles added.
